Do you have Halloween candy coming out your ears?  With so many opportunities to Trick-or-treat, your house may be overflowing like ours.  Did you know that you can get cold hard cash for Halloween candy that your kids collect?  The candy is then sent overseas to our brave men and women in the armed services.

How does the Candy Buy Back work?

  • Participating dentists “buy” back kids’ Halloween candy at a scheduled event
  • “Buy” with cash, coupons, toothbrushes, creative exchanges – They can partner with local businesses to give away coupons for food, services, goods, etc.
  • They can give away the Hygiene Kits, they can set up an Opportunity Prize–each kid gets a ticket per pound of candy for an opportunity drawing to win special prizes, etc.
  • Dentists send the candy to Operation Gratitude or other Military support groups
  • Operation Gratitude sends the candy to U.S. Military deployed in harm’s way

Donate Excess Candy to Troops – Halloween Candy Buy Back

Halloween Candy Buy BackHow did trick-or-treating go for your family last night? My kids came home with a good amount of candy. By good, I mean they can actually consume all of it. Also, we were able to hand out almost all of the candy we purchased.

However, if you find yourself drowning in candy at your home, consider attending a Halloween Candy Buy Back event. Some local dentists are buying excess candy and providing it to Operation Gratitude.

Operation Gratitude is sending 60,000 care packages to troops overseas. Last year, the program received and shipped 125 tons of candy!

Head to Halloween Candy Buy Back to search for an event near you. There are three participating locations in the Madison area:

Some dentists will offer a $1 per pound of candy; others may offer a goody bag of some sort. In the past, some children have donated their candy or given the money back to help pay the shipping cost.

What a great lesson to teach our children! While I don’t have much at my house to donate, I think we should buy some candy and attend an event! Check out Odana Hills Dental–they will have fun activities for the kids to do too.

Thanks for the tip Green Bay Consumer!
